Work begins at Nansloe
Coastline Housing and Mi-space have celebrated the start of work on a new affordable housing development in Helston.
The new development, currently known as Higher Nansloe, is being built on land near to Nansloe Primary School, in Helston, thanks to over £2.3 million in funding secured from Homes England.
A ground-breaking ceremony marked the start of the main construction phase of the project which has already seen initial site preparation works carried out by Mi-space, part of the Midas Group.
The £8 million affordable housing development will feature 75 new homes. Of these, 45 homes will be for affordable rent, and 30 homes for shared ownership (part-buy, part-rent). All will require a local connection to Helston Town.
David Pengelly, Operations Manager for Mi-space, said: “We are delighted to mark the start of construction at Higher Nansloe and to continue Mi-space’s relationship with Coastline Housing in providing high quality affordable homes for people in Cornwall.”
Allister Young, Chief Executive of Coastline Housing, commented: “We’re incredibly proud of our Nansloe development. As well as bringing much-needed affordable homes to the people of Helston it will also include a Coastline Construct project – a classroom based on site where college students can come to learn the various construction trades as part of a structured course. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic project that will change many lives for the better locally.”
Mi-space has previously worked with Coastline, including on the recent Pengover Parc project, which involved the redevelopment of a former industrial site in Redruth into 10 affordable homes. It was a project that saw the Mi-space team receive glowing satisfaction reports from Coastline for its customer service and the high-quality achieved in construction and finishes.
Work on the Higher Nansloe project is due to last approximately 70 weeks with a phased completion, with the first properties due to become available early next year.
